The reasons I love bitcoin are the reasons I own zero of it.
Bitcoin is one of the most popular "investments" for the individual investor right now and I think it's one of the most interesting and dangerous things you can do with your money.
I love new financial experiments, especially the ones that poke at the current system. Bitcoin being invented is genuinely great. It gave people another option, another way to move money, another shot at achieving their money goals.
Here are the two things I genuinely love about bitcoin:
It's unregulated - Bitcoin proposes an escape hatch from the entire regulated system. No central bank, no permission slip, no one who can freeze your account. Someone living under a collapsing currency can hold money their government can't print into oblivion. Anyone with a phone suddenly has access to a financial system: no bank account, no credit check, no gatekeeper.
It's new - New tech, new possibilities, a frontier nobody has mapped yet. "What could this turn into?" It has that early-internet energy, back when nobody knew what a website was for and the people who saw it first felt like they were in on a secret. There's a genuine thrill in watching a technology get implemented in real time and wondering if you're witnessing the first chapter of something huge.
The punchline? The two reasons I love it are the exact two reasons I own zero of it.
It’s unregulated. - The escape hatch has no rules, which means it has no safety net either. There's no fraud department, no "please reverse that charge," no one to call when your money disappears. And I want a paper trail. We're trying to build something real, on the record, and inside the system. The same freedom that makes bitcoin beautiful is what makes it a terrible place to keep our nest egg.
It's new - Nobody knows where this goes, and nobody's planning to regulate it like the dollar. I'm not building my financial base on a "maybe." I need slow, steady, boring growth with compound interest doing its unsexy magic over decades. I'm not playing a high-risk game while the foundation is still being poured.
Bitcoin is a new, undiversified, and unregulated asset. Full stop. So here's the question I want to ask anyone holding bitcoin: what game are you playing? One inside or outside the current financial system?
Email us and tell us which game you're playing — and why!
